If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing time, Los Cristianos is very popular with its lovely harbour, pavement cafes, relaxed bars and restaurants. Or try the Playa Paraiso - it is based around a small beach and has a laid back feel.
Choose Los Gigantes as a base to explore the island and to enjoy fabulous sunsets and views of La Gomera. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants in the centre.
Puerta de la Cruz is a relatively unspoilt old fishing port and still boasts a number of traditional buildings. If you are looking for nightlife, Playa de las Americas is the best resort on the island and has plenty of clubs to choose from.
As well as year long sun, Tenerife has beaches all around the island to choose from, including a number of man-made beaches, such as Lago Martianez. They generally have easy access and all meet the strict European standards of cleanliness, with showers and sun beds available for visitors to use.
Water sports fans will enjoy the Atlantic waves at resorts such as El Medano. For golden sands, try Playa de la Teresitas, Playa de las Americas and Los Christianos. Exotic black, volcanic beaches can be found at Playa San Marcos and Playa Jardin.
A tour around Tenerife will take you through dramatic landscape. The Chinyero Volcano last erupted in 1909, but it is still an impressive sight.
The islands' volcanic formation made the "lunar landscape" that can be explored inland and you can also take tours of the Canadas National Park and Anagar Mountains.
There are dramatic cliffs to be seen at Los Gigantes and the highest point of Tenerife is Mount Teide, of which there are great views from many of the picturesque villages scattered around the island.
Tenerife offers you a wide choice of places to stay - from self-catering accommodation (both apartments and hotels) through to full board, all-inclusive resorts. Many hotels are modern built and in the smaller resorts are mini-complexes with bars and restaurants contained in secluded gardens.
Hotels and apartments in Tenerife usually have air conditioning and pools, both necessary with the island's warm climate! You're never too far away from places to eat and to buy food. It is usual for the out of town hotels to offer a shuttle bus service to the nearest towns so guests can easily get to the shops, bars and beaches.
Golf is very popular with visitors to Tenerife, with some resorts built specifically with the sport in mind. Courses include: Golf del Sur, which has hosted several international tournaments, Amarilla, whose course lies on the southern coast of Tenerife with views of the Atlantic.
Just south of Playa de las Americas is Golf de las Americas a new nine-hole course. Los Palos, outside Los Christianos is praised for its friendly, relaxing atmosphere and is suited to players of all abilities.
